About this Particular Piece in the Series:

This piece illustrates my poem, Time and Schedule, I’m Tired of You, printed below. Underneath that, you will find a description of the series as a whole (of which this piece is a part).

TIME AND SCHEDULE, I'M TIRED OF YOU

Time and Schedule, I'm tired of you-
There's so much, you see, that I long to do!
Yet you won't let go of your stronghold on me;
You don't seem to care that I long to be free.

There are so many paintings and poems to make,
So much for my Muse and I to create!
Yet you won't release me, you clamp and you cloy
Saying, "If you obey, I'll bless you my boy!"

Now I will list all the things you expound.
When Muse comes a knocking, your voices resound
With sensible chatter, you criticize "play,"
Reminding of all that's to be done, ev'ry day:

"If you stay just right where you're s'posed to be
Within set bound'ries, we'll give all to thee:
Comfort and clothing, all neat and pressed,
A home sweet and tidy, to impress any guest!"

"All of your bills, will be promptly paid,
If you're up on time, your bed neatly made.
Oh why do you long to follow that Muse?
Clearly it's we, who care about you!"

"All that we ask is you stay within bounds-
Stop making art, stop list'ning to sounds
Of that rumble inside that says, 'sculpt, draw and paint,'
For that just wastes effort... an artist you ain't!"

"And besides, that's just nonsense; it isn't your fate.
(You're not his charge; you're our dear mate!)
You're meant to stay very carefully controlled
And do daily tasks, until you grow old."

"No one will see, enjoy anyway,
Listen, silly child, and heed what we say-
Put down that pencil, that brush and that pen,
For you must make dollars, deniro and yen!"

"Now, now, what's up with that silly, sad face?
Dry all your tears, jump back in the race!
We mentioned your bills, just to gain lev'rage;
As Sheldon would say, 'Here's a hot bev'rage!' "

"You just get busy and start on your list,
On each jot and tittle, let nothing be missed!
And soon you'll forget about art 'n that Muse.
You'll see we're right; when you're done, you can snooze!"

"There, there, little one, we know you're sad,
But artists are idle (they're really quite bad)!
It's three r's and chores that make the world run-
Oh, good, you're dusting. Phew! See? We won!!!"

About this Series:

Well the title says it all. That is exactly what happened and what this series is all about. Recently, as those of you who follow my page and journal here on DA know, all in the space of about a year, my partner of fourteen years stopped loving me and ended our relationship. I lost my partner, home, studio, artist life, truck, doggie, many of my possessions, etc. Now, God has sent to me a wonderful new partner, Bart, who is a very good match for me. And, which is kinda cool, his name even rhymes with art (and as you know, art is very important to me). Now I have two great loves, art and Bart!

Bart and I are both artists and musicians. We are interested in books/art/history/spirituality/new paradigms, etc. We travel together and perform music (he’s a drummer and I play instruments and sing), make art together, and spend each day in each other’s presence all day long. (And yes, Bart is a saint. Only a saint could put up with me all day long!). And, this is what I prayed for, someone who was a very good match in terms of interests, this time. Thank you, God.

We are both “awake” as the current phrase goes, and are interested in watching the new “golden age” appear as the old paradigm fades away. We both love good food (both chubby daddies), nature, coffee houses, ufology, and are going about manifesting a new life together which capitalizes on all the interests we have in common.

I did, as I always do, forget to list a few things in my manifesting prayer for a new partner. (I believe in manifesting all things, including partners!) And so, Bart and I do have some big differences in our personality and approach to life. And sometimes this makes for fussing. But I think we will learn to deal with these, and I suppose if we were exactly alike, it might be boring.

Bart and I have a cool art and music studio in the city in a delightful old building. It is our abode and also our place to make art and music. In this very neat and beautiful little place, I teach, eat the wonderful meals that Bart makes (he’s a great chef), enjoy the aart by both Bart and myself (which is all over the walls), and soak up all the wonderful color from the art, my many oriental carpets, paperweights, antique furniture, etc.

We spend a lot of time in the studio, but Bart likes to get outside in the world a lot (which I suppose is good for an old art hermit like me). We often visit coffee houses, artsy areas of the city, and several beautiful garden spots near us (since Bart has a landscape architecture degree and loves and knows all trees and plants). We are poor artist/musician types, so the places we visit have to be free or very inexpensive, but I try my hardest to find neat places for us to visit that are nearby.

So, that is all the background on this series, which is in my usual mixed media style. Having gotten temporarily sidetracked (art-wise) for some months by all the change and upheaval in my life, I am very happy to be back to making art and doing it with my new baby!

Hope you enjoy my new pieces in this new series which I have entitled the LFA GSB MANS FBTA Series, or, with the abbreviations spelled out, the Life fell apart, God sent Bart, made a new Start, Finally Back to Art Series. Kinda catchy, huh? Wink.

Enjoy.
