TIME AND SCHEDULE, I'M TIRED OF YOU

Time and Schedule, I'm tired of you-
There's so much, you see, that I long to do!
Yet you won't let go of your stronghold on me;
You don't seem to care that I long to be free.

There are so many paintings and poems to make,
So much for my Muse and I to create!
Yet you won't release me, you clamp and you cloy
Saying, "If you obey, I'll bless you my boy!"

Now I will list all the things you expound.
When Muse comes a knocking, your voices resound
With sensible chatter, you criticize "play,"
Reminding of all that's to be done, ev'ry day:

"If you stay just right where you're s'posed to be
Within set bound'ries, we'll give all to thee:
Comfort and clothing, all neat and pressed,
A home sweet and tidy, to impress any guest!"

"All of your bills, will be promptly paid,
If you're up on time, your bed neatly made.
Oh why do you long to follow that Muse?
Clearly it's we, who care about you!"

"All that we ask is you stay within bounds-
Stop making art, stop list'ning to sounds
Of that rumble inside that says, 'sculpt, draw and paint,'
For that just wastes effort... an artist you ain't!"

"And besides, that's just nonsense; it isn't your fate.
(You're not his charge; you're our dear mate!)
You're meant to stay very carefully controlled
And do daily tasks, until you grow old."

"No one will see, enjoy anyway,
Listen, silly child, and heed what we say-
Put down that pencil, that brush and that pen,
For you must make dollars, deniro and yen!"

"Now, now, what's up with that silly, sad face?
Dry all your tears, jump back in the race!
We mentioned your bills, just to gain lev'rage;
As Sheldon would say, 'Here's a hot bev'rage!' "

"You just get busy and start on your list,
On each jot and tittle, let nothing be missed!
And soon you'll forget about art 'n that Muse.
You'll see we're right; when you're done, you can snooze!"

"There, there, little one, we know you're sad,
But artists are idle (they're really quite bad)!
It's three r's and chores that make the world run-
Oh, good, you're dusting.  Phew!  See?  We won!!!"
TIME AND SCHEDULE, I’M TIRED OF YOU

This poem was given to me, along with another, entitled “Waiting for Ascension.” Both came in one morning, and along with images for them (that really came first, though I did not know, when Muse put them in my brain/heart/soul initially, that they were to be illustrations for poems... or what they were, really, they just started bubbling up. Then came the poems, it all came together, and I said to myself, "Oh, I see!"

Thank you Muse. (I have a really great Muse!)

Here, since it explains well the genesis of this and its "sister poem" is the journal entry I wrote, explaining the two poems and how they came to be:

TWO NEW POEMS FROM MERTON'S MUSE

... more and more (though he has always known this), Merton realizes that he is just a receiver, a transmitter. The Muse is in charge, knows all, gives all, just in the way that it is "supposed" to be given. When all is said and done, Merton wants to meet (and fully understand his Muse)!

Dear Ones,

Muse has given me two new poems, both this morning! Thought you might enjoy them. I print them for you below my signature. I am going to do an illustration for each (that is percolating... for now I am using two previously finished art pieces to illustrate them). Actually the new images for the poems (not drawn yet, but I think they may get done today) came first. They have been bubbling up over the last few days, as I have been staring at the empty art board on my art desk in the den.

I think it is fascinating how the Muse knows what is coming next, gives images, suddenly gives poems, knows the order of things, when they will be finished... just how it all will happen. I am rather a receiver, I think. My job is to respond and draw it, type it, colorize it, put it out into the world, etc. I want to meet my Muse, when all is said and done. It is a spirit, an angel, the Holy Spirit, God, my higher self... all of the above? So many questions to ask when all is said and done.

Anyway, here they are. Hope you enjoy them... my little gift to you (and sort of representing what it "is up" with me... or, "s'up" as a friend often texts (to hubby... I do not really know how to do texting very well... and I think I am glad of that! Wink).

Love, peace, and creative vibes to each of you!
Merton :)
